Supporting the Spread of Dhamma

Supported by the wholesome volition of old students worldwide, VCF is honored to partner with Dhamma centers and local trusts to support the spread of Dhamma. Each project, whether establishing a new center, helping an existing one, or supporting a course is a testament to the collective wish for more beings to find the path to liberation.

Here are some highlights of the projects that VCF has supported to date:

Dhamma Rasa, Australia: A Dedicated Long-Course Center for the Asia-Pacific (2024-2025)

Through a partnership with the local Australian trust and thanks to the boundless generosity and powerful volition of old students, VCF awarded dana to help secure a 39-acre property in January 2025. The project has now moved into the planning phase for construction. The vision includes a large meditation hall and pagoda, single ensuite rooms for all students, and other facilities designed to support 20-Day, 30-Day, 45-Day, and 60-Day courses.

Dhamma Janani, Nepal

Dhamma Janani, Nepal: Expansion at the Birthplace of Gotama the Buddha (2024-2025)

Situated at the birthplace of Gotama the Buddha, Dhamma Janani (“Mother of Dhamma”) in Lumbini, Nepal, holds a special place in the hearts of many meditators. To serve the growing number of students wishing to benefit from the profound Dhamma atmosphere of this sacred land, the center is embarking on a major expansion. Through a partnership with VCF, grants based on the volition of old students were issued in 2024 and 2025 to support the first phase of this inspiring project.

Dhamma Bhanu, Japan: Ensuring Safety with Seismic Reinforcement (2024-2025)

In 2023, following an expert seismic survey, it was concluded that the original buildings at Dhamma Bhanu in Japan required urgent structural reinforcement to ensure they were adequately resistant to earthquakes.

In 2024, VCF was pleased to partner with Dhamma Bhanu by awarding dana, based on the volition of old students, specifically to support construction projects that were required for resuming courses.

Dhamma Mudita, Austria

Dhamma Mudita: Establishing the First Center in Austria (2023-2025)

Nestled in the tranquil hills of Upper Austria, a new center, Dhamma Mudita, has taken root. On 17.8 acres of serene forest and meadowland near the village of Rechberg, the conditions have been carefully cultivated for the practice of Vipassana to flourish. Between 2022 and 2025, VCF was pleased to partner with the local community by providing grants, which were funded by the wholesome volition and dana of old students.

Through this collective effort and metta, essential buildings have been completed, including two accommodation blocks for 50 students, a kitchen, and two dining halls. In May 2025, Dhamma Mudita successfully held its very first ten-day course.

Dhamma Phala, Philippines: Overcoming Crisis and Rebuilding (2022-2025)

In the fall of 2022, VCF partnered with Dhamma Phala, the Vipassana center in the Philippines, which faced an urgent crisis. A total shutdown was necessary after severe termite damage rendered its buildings unsafe. In response, VCF established the Philippines Fund, and thanks to the powerful volition of old students worldwide, issued a grant to support the center’s revival.

Through this partnership, Dhamma Phala has undergone a remarkable transformation. The initial phase focused on replacing the damaged wooden dormitories and bathroom blocks with durable steel-framed structures, which allowed the center to resume courses in January 2023 after a three-year hiatus. In December 2024, a new permanent Dhamma Hall was completed.

Non-Center Course, Mozambique

Non-Center Courses: Reaching Communities Worldwide (2022-2025)

Supported by the collective metta and dana of old students, VCF was privileged to support the continued global spread of Dhamma into regions without permanent centers. Between 2022 and 2025, a total of 41 grants were awarded based on the wholesome volition of old students. This dana sustained non-center courses across a wide range of countries, from Latin America and the Caribbean to numerous nations throughout Africa and the Middle East.

Dhamma Joti, myanmar: Capacity building grants to 25 centers (2020)

In 2020, VCF formally launched its Myanmar fund. As part of a donation by a generous donor, VCF was able to then in turn distribute general capacity building grants to all 25 Centers in Myanmar (Burma). The funds were distributed through Dhamma Joti in Yangon, which is registered as the International Dhammagiri Vipassana Association in Myanmar; and serves as an umbrella organization for all centers in the country.

Through both its granting services and its revolving loan fund, in 2019 VCF provided both a grant and loan to Dhamma Kunja in order to support the construction of its Pagoda: which in Phase 1 will include 71 cells and a small meditation hall. Building a mediation center complex has been part of Dhamma Kuna’s master plan for 20 years. VCF dana based on old students volition hope to support the achievement of this master plan/vision.

DHamma nandanavana, Colombia: Land Purchase (2017)

After almost 20-years of conducting Vipassana courses at non-center sites, in 2017 VCF provided a grant to help support the purchase of land for Vipassana Colombia’s first official center: Dhamma Nandanavana. Vipassana Colombia hosts some of the largest courses in the Latin America region: serving 80 to 120 people per course and over 4,000 people to date. And in 2020, after completion of needed construction, Dhamma Nandanavana offered its first 10-day course at its center.
