Dhamma Mudita: Counting Down to the First 10-Day Course

Nestled amidst the tranquil hills of Upper Austria, where meadows meet forest and silence settles like dew, lies the new home of Dhamma Mudita. Just a short walk through the woods from the village of Rechberg, this new Vipassana meditation center is quietly taking root in the heart of Europe.

Surrounded by a protective belt of forest, with open meadows stretching like an invitation to stillness, the land exudes a natural serenity. It feels as if nature itself has long been preparing this place—waiting patiently for Dhamma to arrive.

Only 40 kilometers from Linz, yet far from the noise of city life, this setting offers both seclusion for inner work and proximity to the world for those who feel moved to support the Dhamma while living nearby. With strong transport links, Dhamma Mudita will welcome old students and newcomers alike—not only from Austria, but also from neighboring regions in Switzerland, Germany and other parts of Europe.

The “garden hut” before the expansion.

It is here, among 7.2 hectares of forest and field, that many will walk the path of liberation, supported by the quiet strength of the land and the boundless generosity of those who have come before.

Over the past year, with the wholesome volition of old students and the support of VCF grants, essential structures have taken shape: a kitchen building with two dining halls and two accommodation blocks, providing space for up to 50 participants. The priority has been clear—create the conditions necessary for courses to begin. And now, that aspiration is about to bear fruit.

In about a month, fifty meditators will take their first steps down the forest path, leave their phones—and much else—behind, and sit together in the converted “garden hut”. Outside, meadow flowers will open to the sun. Inside, insight will open in silence.

When the final gong of that course fades, the real story of Dhamma Mudita will only just be beginning. But today, we pause to celebrate how far we have already walked, and to invite every sympathetic heart to support this new center

In a beautiful gesture of generosity, an old student has offered to match Dana received until the end of May 2025—quietly doubling the impact of every offering.

May all who give find joy in giving. May all who sit here find peace. May Dhamma take root in this gentle Austrian soil and flourish for the benefit of countless beings.
