Supporting Sri Lankan Centers During Economic Recovery: Current Funding Priorities

Sri Lanka's Vipassana centers are immensely grateful for continued community support as the country navigates its economic recovery. The current challenges significantly impact daily operations and development work at our four established centers, as well as construction at our two emerging centers. Your Dana has been incredibly helpful, enabling the timely execution of critical needs and projects.

Current Priority Funding Needs:

At Dhamma Anuradha, meaning The Elder Dhamma, there are several projects underway to improve the facilities for students.

Project: Room improvements

Installing private bathrooms for 40 rooms to improve student privacy and deeper seclusion.

Estimated Cost: LKR 20,000,000 (USD $67,000), Cost per unit LKR 500,000 (USD $1,667).

Dhamma Arana

Dhamma Arana, where Arana signifies the power to prevent the passion in others, is working on establishing a new place for Dhamma in the rural village of Wellavaya, Monaragala, Uva Province.

Project: Dining hall roofing

By mid-2026 the local team hopes to complete 50 of the 100 planned private meditation rooms, opening this center to old students and new practitioners.

To begin serving courses without delay, the dining hall will be used temporarily as a meditation hall. At present, however, the center is unable to complete the roofing work of this hall due to limited funds. Completing this roofing work will allow them to begin courses soon and serve the community.

Estimated Cost to complete the roof: Total cost LKR 15,000,000 (USD $50,000). Cost of one squire-foot LKR 1,500 (USD $5), You can contribute dana (donations) to these meritorious projects according to your capacity and develop your pāramitās.

Project: Water tower and distribution system construction

Potable water remains scarce in this region, requiring water to be trucked in regularly and manually transferred to tanks throughout the campus. Thanks to the generosity of old students, a deep spring with potable water was discovered on the property and a well has been successfully dug.

The final phase of this project requires building a water tower on an elevated platform with a storage tank, pump and quality piping network to supply clean drinking water reliably throughout the campus, eliminating the ongoing costs and logistical challenges of water delivery - and providing a permanent solution to this essential need. Estimated Cost: LKR 2,500,000 (USD $8,400)

Dhamma Kuta

At Dhamma Kuta, the Pinnacle of Dhamma, is in the process of facility upgrades to enhance student accommodation.

Project 1: Individual room conversion with attached bathrooms

Converting dormitory-style male accommodation to individual rooms with private facilities. Ten new washrooms with hot water showers are needed at a total estimated cost of LKR 5,000,000 (USD $16,700).

Project: Extension of kitchen roof
