Help us support Hawaii in expanding the number of annual, non-center courses offered.
Hawaii Vipassana has been offering Dhamma for over 35 years. In that time, it has grown from very modest beginnings, serving a small number of students sporadically through the years, to now serving hundreds of students per year. Courses have been offered at rental sites on Kauai, Big Island, and most recently, Oahu.
Old students in Hawaii have faced many challenges such as the lava flow event in May 2018 that destroyed all of Hawaii Vipassana’s possessions. Amid that destruction, a new beginning came for Hawaii. Many hands came together to transition from the Big Island with 60-person courses to Oahu, where we could serve a larger population and run 100-person courses. The first two courses on Oahu occurred in March 2019 and offered Dhamma to over 200 students.
From 2021 to 2023, no courses were offered in Hawaii because of the COVID pandemic. However, courses began again in 2023 and in that time Hawaii Vipassana has moved from offering two courses a year to four. This has increased the number of students learning Dhamma from 200 to over 400 a year. During this period of growth, there has been a significant increase in the number of local residents sitting courses. Over the past several years, the enrollments have increased from 40% to 60% local students. A Trust has now been formed, and a number of regular 1-day courses are also being offered on the Big Island and Oahu. It's clear that the Dhamma is growing in Hawaii.
To help fund this initiative, the Hawaii Vipassana Trust is seeking both one-time and ongoing donations.
Dana for Hawaii Vipassana will help cover:
Facilities rental and food costs
Infrastructure support to help reduce ongoing expenses, including:
Supporting the cost of a shipping container which allows for the storage of course materials, avoiding high long-term storage costs and potential damage.
Purchasing kitchenware, meditation cushions, knee cushions, and benches.
Any support in helping to spread Dhamma to a greater number of students in Hawaii will be greatly appreciated!
