Help us support Costa Rica in building out the first center in Central America.

In 2021, Asociación Vipassana Costa Rica (VCR) purchased a piece of land of approximately 34 acres in the Orosi Valley, adjacent to a large national park that connects to several other national parks — which together create the largest protected reserve in Central America. While very pristine, the location is just a 75 minute drive from San Jose, Costa Rica's capital; and just 25 minutes away from Cartago, the old capital city of the country.

In May 2023, VCR began constructing the Costa Rica Vipassana Center: Dhamma Ariya (the Noble Dhamma) — starting with the dining area structure, build-out of simple cabins/dorms, completing the toilet/shower/storage blocks, and improvements to the interim meditation hall. This initial work culminated with VCR holding its first inaugural three-day course on the property in December 2023.

Next phases of construction now include the completion of the dining/kitchen structure, as well as additional sleeping accommodations and toilets/showers — so that VCR can begin holding ten-day courses in the Spring of 2025. The longer-term goal is to build accommodations for up to 60 students as well as build a proper meditation hall and individual cells tucked amongst the jungle trees. Any help in building out the first Vipassana center in Central America is greatly appreciated**. Or if you have questions, feel free to reach out to us at donations@vcf.dhamma.org.
